My baby boy has hit the one-year-mark, and we celebrated last weekend with family and good friends. (Wait - the family is good, too. That didn't sound right, did it?) I think I say this every time I talk about him, but he really is the sweetest, sweetest little boy. We had some official First Birthday pics taken by a pro, and I'll share those here soon, but here are some pics by mom and Carley the Great that were taken on the day of his bash.
We didn't have a cake - other than the little number "1" I made for him to smash - and instead I made (dairy-free!) cupcakes for everyone. Aren't these toppers and grass wrappers adorable? I got them from a girl on Etsy - perfect for our baby Gator!
She also made this adorable banner. Not that you can really see it.
I appliqued the little guy a T-shirt with a 1 on it - sort of. That's what it's supposed to look like, anyway. I didn't take any good pics of it, but I mentioned a professional took his 1-year pics, right? He was wearing it in some of those shots so hopefully you'll be able to see it better when I get them.
He loved opening presents! He's at the age where he actually (finally) gets that there are toys in those bags/boxes.
When it was time for cake, the plan was to strip him down to a diaper and birthday hat.
He did not love the hat.
I'm warning you, what happens next is about the saddest thing that could happen at a little guy's first birthday party. See how he's really interested in that candle flame?
Mommy wasn't fast enough. He put it out with his itty bitty finger. So. So. Sad.
There's video of this event, too, and some time when my internet connection isn't timing out every minute or so (one of the joys of living in the country), I'll upload the video for you. It might make you cry. If you have a heart.
After we settled him down, he still wasn't sure about the whole cake thing. Even when we put it in front of him without a candle, he started to cry. Poor baby.
Until, that is, he discovered that it's yummy.
I'm glad he decided to give cake another try. After all, what would life be without cake??
At one year, Cade is as tiny as ever. He weighs just 18 lbs. 12 oz. At this rate he'll be rear-facing in the car until he's, like, 4. I'm happy (beyond thrilled, actually) to report that he seems to have outgrown his milk and soy allergies! It's hard to explain to you what a blessing this truly is. He's been drinking raw milk every day now since just after his birthday, and we haven't even had a runny nose. Mommy has been enjoying (overindulging) on all those things I missed: pizza, real homemade butter, ice cream. And my current obsession - Wee Brie wedges. I'm feeling better, too, now that I'm not starving every minute of the day. And I'm finally gaining weight! After gaining just 0.2 of a pound in the first 16 weeks of my pregnancy, I'm happy to say that Cinco and I are now moving the scale. Thank you, God, for letting baby Cade outgrow his allergy, and thank you, most of all, for him! He's such a blessing.
